o   Unlike the vast majority of deities, Anzo has a very fixed form which he is depicted in, and appears to his mortal followers, with a surprising continuity. He refuses, or is perhaps unable, to take on a form other than that of a human. As such, he almost always appear as a recognizable figure of a tall, handsome man with a dark complexion and a kindly smile. Even when he is seldom worshipped by other races, he invariably appears as this same form, despite the fact that they normally worship him very differently to his human worshippers.

o   His garb, however, does vary significantly from community to community. He would never be described as garish or extravagant, but he does tend to don the garb of someone in the station just above the person that he is appearing or appealing to. He is often shown carrying a quarterstaff, or a spear if at war, and most of his graven images have him assisting or protecting children in some way or another.

Aquila

The Blood Lady of Slaughter
Goddess of chaos, blood and endless war

She is a hurricane from a clear sky; a thousand men falling in love with one woman; the single droplet of water that dooms a calm sea. She is the unexpected given form – the one thing you did not and could not possibly plan for.”- The Witness of the Silver Dawn.

Alignment: CN.
Domains: Air (Wind), Chaos, Charm, Destruction, Trickery.
Favored Weapon: Great Axe.

Appearance

·       Signamancy:

o   Unlike Anzo, who may or may not be a relation, Aquila delights in changing her form to better appeal to the other races of the New Order. Her favorites are orcs, men, and dwarves, though she occasionally appears as a halfling, amazon, or elf.  However, there may be some theological validity to the claim she never takes the form of a goblin.  The goblin scholar, Khelsiks, proposed the theory that humans, dwarves, and orcs take a twisted pleasure in total war and slaughter, while halflings, amazons, and elves dread it, but to goblins whole sale slaughter is merely inconvenient and financially unsound, so Aquila cannot take the form of a people to whom she cannot influence in the same way as others. Instead, goblins tend to depict her as an orc in their occasional worship of her.

o   It is worth noting that beyond changing her race, Aquila is quite frivolous in her attire, easily changing it between culture and class. In all of her forms, however, she is noted for her incredible beauty and her intoxicating effect on all those around her – not even deities and other divine beings have proven completely immune to her charms. In contrast to Bethany and Kumo, Aquila normally chooses simplistic clothing that is neither particularly revealing, expensive or remarkable in any other way, allowing her unexplainable and irresistible beauty to show her divine heritage. Even during times of war, she is rarely shown carrying a weapon, though her hands, feet and eyes are sometimes shown to drip blood to depict an angry or offensive version of the goddess.

·       Signamancy:

o   While Bagheera has been depicted in many forms across the domains of the New Order, it has been noted by many scholars that icons and images of Bagheera are relatively few, especially when compared to the other gods. When he is depicted as himself, he is invariably a man in a pristine military uniform of the region (often with a turban or some other form of hair-hiding headgear), decorated with many awards for both skill and courage. He is normally depicted as being middle-aged with neatly trimmed facial hair and a withering stare. He is always depicted with his famous longsword, the Dawnbringer, at his side, though it is never drawn from its scabbard.

o   However, as previously noted, images of Bagheera himself are relatively few. Many churches choose instead to depict him as a large big cat or as a fusion between a man and a cat (though how that fusion is interpreted changes wildly from region to region). Goblins, especially notable for the way they interpret the signamancy of the gods, never depict him in a humanoid form, choosing to always worship him as a giant cat. Orcs, in their fearful respect of the man who ended the Jotun invasion, normally depict him as a giant armored panther.

·       Signamancy:

o   Bethany is perhaps the most complicated deity when it comes to her signamancy, because she prides herself in her fluidity and ability to change. Indeed, her physical form has been noted to shift dramatically from culture to culture, far more so than the other gods. She has been depicted as a member of all races, a fusion of those races, races that no longer exist, and races that have never existed. It is also worth mentioning that Bethany seems to be the only deity on the New Order able to change genders as well as races. Due to her known history and strong association with the race, Bethany is depicted as an elf more than any other form.

o   Despite this fluidity, Bethany is rarely depicted as anything other than captivatingly beautiful, though normally as a more exotic or overwhelming beauty than the ineffable perfection of Aquila. Another contrast to Aquila is her clothes, which are exotic and designed to attract attention – they are normally incredibly revealing or extravagant. Finally, Bethany seems to be unable, or unwilling, to change the color of her hair – which is the radiant red of molten metal.

o   Known to be hideously scarred, Corax has a long habit of hiding his face for the sake of those around him. Because of this, and his own divine purviews, much of Corax’s signamancy is very similar throughout the regions and cultures of Second Earth. While most assume that Corax does change his form to match the races he is communicating with, it is difficult to tell as his face is always shown to be shrouded in the total darkness of his hood. So strong is this association that on the occasions that he is depicted without his hood, he is almost always shown to be completely faceless – both elves and goblins seem to prefer this faceless interpretation of the Lost God in their worship of him.

o   Corax is generally depicted as a short man, dressed in plain clothes or simplistic armor, always dark in hue. He is very rarely depicted without his famous short blade, Astra, and is occasionally shown with a longbow or other hunting weapons. While many gods possess retainers, Corax’s retainer, the great wolf Erebus, is frequently depicted next to him even when other retainer gods are absent from the image.
